The process
From granulate to finished part.
In Sand in Taufers, South Tyrol, two processes run side by side: injection moulding and blow moulding. Both start with granulate and end with an inspected batch — in between they differ fundamentally.
Injection moulding
In injection moulding the melt is forced into a closed mould and solidifies there in its final shape. This is how our buckets, lids and technical components are made.
- Granulate. Certified plastic granulate is dried and fed to the machine.
- Plasticising. The screw melts the granulate into a homogeneous mass.
- Injection. The melt is injected into the mould under high pressure.
- Cooling. The cooling circuit in the mould brings the part to shape in a controlled way — dimensional accuracy and cycle time depend on it.
- Ejection. The mould opens and the finished part is removed, cycle after cycle.
- Inspection. Vision checks the parts optically in line, Trace documents every batch.
Blow moulding
In blow moulding a soft tube is formed first and then expanded inside the mould with compressed air. The process produces thin-walled hollow bodies — bottles and containers that could not be made this way by injection moulding.
- Extruding the tube. The extruder pushes a soft plastic tube downwards, the parison.
- Closing the mould. The two mould halves come together and enclose the tube.
- Blowing. Compressed air expands the tube until it lies against the mould wall everywhere — this creates the hollow shape.
- Cooling. The cooling circuit stabilises the wall; this is where dimensional accuracy is decided.
- Ejection and deflashing. The mould opens, the excess flash is cut off and returns to the material cycle.
- Inspection. Tightness and appearance are checked before the container leaves the line.
What comes after
Every batch is documented and stays traceable back to the material and the machine. We are certified to ISO 9001; optical inspection runs in line, not as a sample check at the end.
